Sagetree invades Drupal camp Los Angeles

Rich Yumul

Sagetree was a Gold sponsor at this year's Drupal Camp LA (DCLA). Our team was there in full force and even brought the coffee for all campers to enjoy! Or that's what some campers ventured was just a successful marketing plot (along with their free Drush Cheat Sheet) to draw more people to their booth. Insert evil laugh.

Rich Yumul and Doug Hoffman offered a total of 4 workshops and training sessions.

DRUPAL 8 WEBSITE - FROM BLANK TO LIVE IN 45!

Description: This session is for all who are new to Drupal and don't know where to start! In 45 minutes (or less), Doug walks the group through a demo on how to install Drupal , build a functioning web site and deploy it live to the Internet. He calls it using Codeless Drupal. No need for any of that pesky PHP or CSS or HTML stuff! Demo site will be built with standard Drupal modules and a contributed (read free) theme. Participants leave this session with an understanding of the basic building blocks of Drupal, including pages, blocks, menus, content types, fields, views, image presets and much more.

BUILDING YOUR FIRST DRUPAL 7 THEME

Description: Because building Drupal 8 themes, with its new hotness is not yet a viable solution for lots of clients, Rich offers this quick and dirty session on how to build a D7 theme. It's an introductory session on theming in Drupal 7 - which don't worry, it will be around for years to come. This workshop is a great presentation for front-end folks that want to learn the ropes around building a custom Drupal theme.

YOUR FIRST DRUPAL 7 MODULE

Description: Even with D8 coming out, there's still a lot of lifespan for the Drupal 7 platform. This is a great intro session to start building custom modules for a Drupal 7 project. This is a show and tell presentation that walks participants through the process of building a first custom module. Because, if there's no module for that, then build one!

WHAT EVERY CLIENT SHOULD KNOW BUT YOUR DEV PARTNER DIDN'T TELL YOU

Description: Rich Yumul & Doug Hoffman have designed a special workshop that talks about the different factors that push & pull on a project, and likewise push and pull on the happiness and peace of mind of the client and the dev shop. This is a must for project managers and clients!

These workshops are part of Sage Tree's training services. The agency believes in helping the Drupal community grow by offering regular training sessions, and in joining the group of organizers behind the San Diego Drupal Users' Group and the annual SANDcamp.

The team also had the opportunity to chat with event organizer, John Romine from the University of California in Irvine, about his experience with this year's organization and grilled him on the DCLA website hoping to snag great ideas for the SANDcamp.org site and upcoming event February 25th-27th 2016.

Of course, being at Camp, the team seized the moment to bond together as you can see from the obvious banter and laughter in the slideshow!
